2016: The Transparent Season

A Self-Coached Cycling Coach Reveals All

Sam at the start line of the 2014 Ohio State Championships

Cycling training can seem to be an extreme practice; either completely random and “by feel,” or so mired in data and metrics as to be seen as voodoo by the uninitiated.

For my own 2016 season, I aim to demystify the process.

You don't have to be a cyclist to find the training process interesting. But if you are a competitive cyclist, I hope you'll find the following pages not only interesting, but of real value to you as you train.

My hope is to reveal just how complex, intense, passion-filled, chess-like, and…fun…road bike racing can be, by showing you in detail my own planning and training for the 2016 road season.
